This is the second webinar in the LA RHEP Summer Learning Series titled, "Courageous Conversations: Perspectives, lived experiences, and advice about supporting Youth’s health and relationship needs in the time of coronavirus"
We are in an unprecedented time with the pandemic and having to shelter in place. We’ve had to adjust almost daily with new rules and regulations to keep our families safe. For caregivers and the young people they care for in their homes, it may even be a more difficult adjustment as each group navigates this new normal. However, this is also a great opportunity for caregivers and youth to strengthen their relationship and create a space where young people feel comfortable enough with their caregiver to go to them about sensitive topics like sex and sexual health (i.e. those awkward conversations).
In this webinar, the audience will hear from both youth and their former caregivers about how they built a strong foundation and created a relationship that allowed the caregiver to be a trusted adult and aid for the youth’s reproductive and sexual health needs. Additionally, this webinar will include ways to utilize shelter in place as an opportunity to have age-appropriate, medically-accurate conversations about sexual health with youth in the home. LA RHEP resources, including tools and different strategies on how to have these conversations will be shared. The audience will both have the opportunity to get questions answered directly from young people and their former caregivers and be invited to participate in follow-up workshops to practice the strategies discussed in the webinar.
