FAM is a new program launching in the SF Bay Area to serve youth in foster care who have experienced CSEC by providing a family based placement with 2 highly trained and supported caregivers. We are looking for the RIGHT adults to join as resource parents - if you or someone you know might be a good fit please visit www.joinfam.org to learn more and sign up for a chat!

01:18:59
I have to commend you all for sharing. You echo the ideas I have had in my own mind moving into the future for survivors and us who are survivors ourselves

01:19:01
I am so very proud of each and every one of you. Your journey's are not over! Continue to proceed to your finish lines! :)

01:19:17
Thank you ladies for the informative and awesome presentation

01:19:36
FAM also offers intensive training and monthly support groups for adults caring for system involved youth at risk of CSE. Those can also be accessed via joinfam.org

01:19:53
FACTS!

01:20:49
The last question I will ask all of you is to share one takeaway or call to action for attendees (so think on it)

01:21:00
WOW Ashley, Incredible

01:21:11
Thank you for sharing Ashley

01:21:16
👏

01:21:20
Thank you for sharing, Ashley <3

01:21:35
Ashley - that is incredible - the fact that you are able to teach and change the law enforcement perspective - what a miracle.

01:21:48
Please add Gayla.Gibson@bakersfieldcollege.edu to the mailing list. I have to leave early to pick up kids at school. Very interesting information!! Great job!!

01:21:48
I agree Chelsey

01:21:50
Ashely, thank you for sharing. So many of my clients are also involved with the juvenile criminal system where their exploiters are forcing them to commit crimes or suffer the consequences. Really difficult to get judges and DA's to understand

01:21:55
Thank you all for sharing! Proud of you all and happy I was able to be here (:

01:22:03
Don’t forget to let them know that they will get a follow up email with slides, recording, and survey

01:22:11
Thank you, Youth Law Center, for creating such a powerful cohort of those with lived experience, and organizing this event.

01:22:15
Yes Chelsey!

01:22:24
Any suggestions for how to support youth victims in foster care that are declining to be placed with family and foster/resource homes and preferring instead group-based care to have more "Freedom" to leave as they choose. We understand the challenges they must be facing around how to receive the personalized care and attention they receive from family-based living, but worry that by continuing to place them in STRPs that they AWOL from, they are not getting the support they need.

01:22:39
i am a survivor and it took me 3 years of being out of the life to come to terms with what happened. My mentor Mary White was there from day one and waited until i was ready, until i came to her and it made such a difference

01:24:13
Can we get a list of survivor networks in the orange county / la county areas?

01:24:42
The Woman's Shelter in San Luis Obispo were the first to help be safe in 2010. The first time I had the respect from another regarding CSA. 40 years had gone by.

01:24:51
What language can be used in job description when searching for a survivor advocate ?

01:26:07
Would it be appropriate to say that consultation can be used to help craft a hiring process for an entity seeking to hire survivors

Can you talk about the overlap between labor trafficking and sex trafficking and if you think these labor and sex trafficked kids need different services?

01:26:40
Yes we had that here in San diego

01:26:51
So thankful for Angelica in Kern County!

01:27:14

01:27:42
Yes! It would absolutely be appropriate to say that if you need help crafting a hiring process for survivors consultation would be a great resource for you

01:27:42
As a service provider, is there perhaps a list or brochure of compiled resources for survivors?

01:27:43
https://www.orangewood4you.org/sex_trafficking_csec_services/the-lighthouse/

01:28:16

01:29:26
Any suggestions on the best approach to finding families who want to help young people who have experienced CSEC? What qualities are needed in caregivers who are most successful with these youth?

01:29:47
That is so awesome Chelsey!

01:29:53
Love never fails has a housing program for survivors they are located out of Alameda county

01:29:57
Yes Juline and also, how to go about recruiting homes for CSEC...any suggestions with that as well

01:30:14
Thank you all for answering my question!

01:30:49
good question

01:31:49
right sometimes home is not safe and it's deeper than what's on the surface and what they can see

01:32:11
I’m glad you said that.. sometimes going back home isnt always a good fit

01:32:19
it's a lot of mental and emotional abuse in a home

01:32:20
It would be nice to have more Tiny House communities throughout the nation, but with wrap-around services for those communities. Out here in the desert, there aren't too many emergency housing options and the ones that we do have are almost always full or have a long waitlist. Even with the Section 8 vouchers, there is a huge wait list in our county and low inventory of homes that accept the vouchers. Any suggestions, from anyone would be great! Thank you all for the amazing information you share and the work that you do!!!💜💜💜

01:32:22
Transitional Housing Placement Programs for nonminor dependents offer a lot more freedom than a traditional foster placement in various counties.

01:32:25
Very insightful Kia!

01:32:28
Any ideas how social workers and helping professionals can better engage with youth? We have a high number of foster youth who run away consistently, use drugs and are challenging to get engaged in services.

01:32:34
💜

01:32:35
I would like to receive the recording of this presentation, please. windysnap@gmail.com or info@resilientsouls.org

01:32:35
I am here because I am considering creating a house for a survivor in transition. My Non-Profit is call Coastal Thrivers here on the Central Coast. We have been on hold through the Pandemic. We are a Recreational Peer Network of Thrivers.

01:33:49
Absolutely!

01:34:00
thank you!

01:34:05
YOURE INCREDIBLE!!

01:34:07
Any good trainings for foster parents and family member that they can take?

01:34:10
Tika and Reshya - going to have you respond

01:34:15
Then ask the question about labor trafficking

01:34:37
And then pose the last “what is your key takeaway/call to action question” to everyone

01:34:55
HUGS!!!!

01:35:01
Natali, WestCoast Children’s clinic offers trainings Training Email: csectraining@westcoastcc.org

01:35:16
Valley Oasis in LA County SPA 1 have a program called Host Homes for the youth. This program is a household accepting the youth into their home for 6 months. In the six month's the Host receives a stipen, and signs a contract agreeing to take care of, teach, mentor, and mold.

01:35:35
You are on to something with the tiny houses. if we had the funding we would definitely do it.

01:35:46
Based on lived experiences what type of living environments are the most conducive for healing and growing after the life?

01:35:50
Saving Innocence has trainings for foster parents. Tika does some of the support groups for them

01:36:01
If a second home is purchased to provide housing for youth, is funding available to help pay the mortgage?

01:37:23
Yes! Extended family matters. That’s why FAM hopes to match each youth with 2 families (a primary residence and an auntie/grandma/mentor) so that youth have options. (JoinFam.org)

01:38:49
Thats deep!

01:38:52
Does anyone feel comfortable fielding the labor trafficking question?

01:39:09
Great insight, Rashay!

01:39:53
Such an important point Reshay! thank you so much for bringing attention to that!!! Even with the best intentions, our own past can come up

01:40:06
Jesus is our answer

01:40:16
Amen

01:40:19
Amen Sylvia!!

01:40:22
Lotta prayer

01:40:23
Definitely, but they would have to be specific communities of Tiny Houses for our youth. Very separate from the adult/family sites. But it would truly be helpful to offer the supports and services within those communities.

01:40:39
I am just going to have one answer related to labor

01:40:45
Amen.

01:40:46
Just because of timing

01:40:48
If that is okay

01:40:54

01:41:33
Training Email: csectraining@westcoastcc.orgWestcoast Children's Clinic offers Advanced CSEC training for Caregivers and Providers. The training will provide an advanced and comprehensive curriculum on best practices for supporting and parenting youth that are commercially sexually exploited. In this 16-hour training, we will build on the skills and concepts learned in previous introduction to commercial sexual exploitation trainings, including but not limited to: an exploration of common dynamics when caring for and supporting commercially exploited youth and how these dynamics impact parenting/caretaking and caregivers.

01:41:36
How do we transfer the CSEC lens to our gang involved youth who are also recruited, exploited and essentially trafficked (forced to run/sell drugs, engage in criminal activity and sell or provide sex). There seems to be so much crossover.

01:41:42
Appreciate all the wisdom and insight being shared. Thank you all so much.
